3.0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones, Lousy Special Edition, May 29, 2011
This review is from: Beats by Dr. Dre Pro Detox Edition Over Ear Headphone from Monster (Electronics)
If you're familiar with the Beats by Dre, you'll know that recently their top of the line Beats PROs came out. That particular headset is very good; it is a non-powered headset ( no batteries ) give you a tighter bass response than the Studios offer, and also do an impressive job of isolating the sound of your music in your ears. The PROs barely bleed your audio through it's thick skin.

The Detox special edition is nice, but overall it's not worth it. A Monster rep during a training session said that the Detox would be limited edition and that it was to come with a hard case, not the fabric case the current PROs have. Instead, we are given the same fabric case, but with Detox on it. It was to be numbered as it is a limited edition, so their should be an engraving on the headset. Instead there is a decal. Lastly, the paint on the headset is terrible. If you buy a headset that is $600, and the paint is chipping off an hour or so after they've been put out, then there is... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars You are paying for the Dre name., June 15, 2011

You are basically paying $100 more just to have them in black. For me there was no other option than black so i paid the extra $100. These are exactly the same as the regular Pro's with few minor details. $400 was a bit much for me so imagine $500, I had to have them though. You really are paying for the Dre name. If these were regular, no celebrity name, no one famous was wearing these then they wouldn't be as popular. I'd recommend them to people only if they already spend $400+ on stuff.

update:
I decided to buy these headphones because i really did like the sound and every time i would go to best buy I would go to their dj booth and try them. My previous over the ear headphones are Bose. The thing i now realize that i like about Bose is that they are very light-weight and the ear cup is oval shaped. These beats headphones are heavy and have a circle shaped ear cup. The circle shaped ear cup made it very uncomfortable to my ears after a few hours of listening to... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars $100 for some paint, May 22, 2011
This review is from: Beats by Dr. Dre Pro Detox Edition Over Ear Headphone from Monster (Electronics)
If an extra $100 for paint is not important to you, and you like your headphones all black, get these. There's not much to say about them that hasn't been said in the numerous other reviews of the non-limited edition versions. They're rock solid, bass heavy, and tight fitting. Random thoughts follow:

I find them tight, but in a very comfortable kind of way on my 7-3/4 head.
I wish that the headband height adjustment "clicked" instead of the half slide/half click action that mine have.
The painted "Dr. Dre Detox" design on top looks cheap and ugly, in my opinion.

I've read that some find these to be sonically similar to the Beats Studio. I find the Studios to be very clear and well balanced throughout their frequency range, not boomy or bass heavy as others say. I consider the Pros to be kind of bass heavy. They feel "strong", if that makes any sense. They sound crisp with "Electronic" EQ setting on my ipod touch. On my Zune, I leave the EQ setting on... Read more
