2.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but not for DJs, April 23, 2012
This review is from: Beats by Dr. Dre MIXR Black Over-Ear Headphone (Old Version) (Electronics)
As a DJ, I have used Sony V700 for a while and I decided to "upgrade" ... after some basic research these seemed to make sense - at first they seemed great, the bass is really clean and noticeable and the kicks are much more powerful - unlike the other beats these do not overwhelm the rest of the elements in the song ... however, I find it very difficult to beat-match with these headphone, when the 2 kicks overlap it creates an echo which makes it impossible to perfectly transition ... in my last 2 mixes, I switched back to Sony's to finish the mix ... not to mention that they do hurt if you wear them for a while - thinking about returning them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a fan of Beats, but these aren't too bad., May 15, 2012

I'm usually not a fan of the "Beats" series of headphones, so this will be an honest review of the Mixr.

For starters, this is a newer headphone made in conjunction with David Guetta's seal of approval. While Guetta may not use these headphones for his own mixing, he'll wear them in support of the Beats name.

Now to get to the headphone.

In my opinion this headphone is an upgrade from the well known Studio model, but you're probably asking "If this is an upgrade, why is this cheaper than the Studio?"

The answer lies in the build of the headphone, the sound quality, and the fact that they're non-powered.

The build of this headphone is almost comparable to that of the Beats Pro which has a metal casing and a driver that cleans up the muddy bass and low end of the amplified Studio model. I like to call this the little brother of the Pro. It's a sturdy, yet compact headphone that's good for listening to a wide variety of music. Mostly... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent after breaking in the headband, May 31, 2012
This review is from: Beats by Dr. Dre MIXR Black Over-Ear Headphone (Old Version) (Electronics)
I already owned a pair of white beats studios and even though the sound is very tweaked I enjoy them quite a lot for rock and pop music, and so I decided to get something more portable, so I gave the Solo HD's a try, I had owned the original Solo's once before and returned them the next day because to be honest the sound was horrible, but I did like the design and portability, I tried the HD's out and while they did sound better than the original solo's they are still way to bass driven, so much so that it overpowers the mids, and the highs don't sound as crisp because of the same effect... anyway, I returned them after about two weeks because I was trying to give them a chance to burn in, but I never really did like the sound. I saw these new line of beats and cough up the difference and give them a shot....to my surprise the sound on these are quite good, very balanced, which is kind of weird to say about the sound signature in a beats product, I loved the look and build quality of...
