2.0 out of 5 stars Some will love these - others will hate them, January 18, 2011
This review is from: Beats by Dr. Dre Studio White Over-Ear Headphones from Monster (Old Version) (Electronics)
The good - Impressive bass!

The bad - everything else!

If you like boom cars, this is the cats meow.

The bass is tight, but very excessive and drowns out the midrange which sounds very flat. The problem is that if you want to hear the midrange, the phones have to be so loud that the bass will cause hearing loss after a short time.

These are not audiophile quality, but I'm sure that bass freaks will fall in love with these cans.

I'm not the final word on what constitutes good sound, to each their own. If you love bass at the expense of everything else, you'll love these.

From my perspective, 90% of most music occurs in the midrange and bass and extended highs are the icing on the cake. In this case, think of a cup cake (midrange) with 2 pounds of frosting (bass).

3.0 out of 5 stars If you've been spoiled by better headsets, then this won't cut it, May 1, 2011

Let's be honest - I got it for the looks, and the replaceable cord. It looks really, really good. But if you've tried out various headsets before, you'll know that you can get much better sound out of a set of open cans without the noise cancellation (see the ATH-ESW9s by Audio Technica -- the sound is far more rich, and you can still hear all the subtleties). We're paying for brand recognition here.

Don't get me wrong -- the sound is still decent, but it feels dead without an equalizer. If you're going to use your headphones mainly at home, don't get these. If you're out and about and want to be seen with stylish headphones, then get these.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not built to last, January 6, 2012
This review is from: Beats by Dr. Dre Studio White Over-Ear Headphones from Monster (Old Version) (Electronics)
I bought these 6 months ago and at first I loved them but as time went on certain things became apparent. On my old headphones I could listen to the music with or without the noise cancelling functionality on. These require you to have it on which is annoying because you go through a lot of batteries. I recommend investing in some rechargables. The main reason I am giving this a one star review is because the lack of durability. There are these tiny little screws holding the front and back plastic of the headphones together and they were constantly loosening. I kept tightening them when I noticed but one by one they have disappeared. The headphones now are falling apart. Also the phone cable that comes with these died within a month. Unfortunately I have found no way to replace the screws or the cable. For 300 dollars I expected so much more.
